Joseph Spratt discusses his recent placement with our Managed Services team and the lessons he learnt during this opportunity
So what’s your role at makepositive?
I am a Technical Consultant here at makepositive. I usually work on the delivery side of the business where I work closely with other Technical Consultants, Implementation Consultants, Project Managers and Testers to help deliver the final product to client.
What attracted you to the placement within the Managed Services team?
I was initially offered the opportunity to work with Managed Services for couple of weeks as they needed a few extra pair of hands, and this quickly turned into months as the team are always so busy. I had heard a lot about all the great work Managed Services do for the company, as well as the family like culture and the talented individuals within the team. So I figured it would be great opportunity to learn and gain some exposure to this side of the business.
What tasks and projects did you work on during your placement?
During my time in Managed Services (MS), I worked on a range of different clients and technical pieces of work. The nature of the work means MS are very team orientated when it comes to achieving goals. Whilst I did take ownership over my own clients, I also found myself being exposed to other business processes, clients or pieces of work that my experience was relevant to. This created a fast paced but varied learning environment.
What did you enjoy most about the placement?
Definitely the team. I don’t think I have ever met such a welcoming, hardworking and positive group of people who also find the time to answer any questions you may have.
What new skills did you learn?
In terms of technical skills, it really helped me understand the processes around deployments and improved my debugging techniques. On a more general level it has taught me how to work quickly and efficiently to try and find a solution to a problem.
Do you have any tips for someone wanting to start a career in Salesforce?
My general advise for someone looking to start a career in Salesforce is to have a high level understanding of the products Salesforce provides, talk to individuals working within the industry and get an understanding of what their day to day role looks like. Also never doubt yourself or your ability! I have met so many talented individuals working in the Salesforce space from all walks of life and they all bring something different and unique to the makepositive team.
