Coby Press shares what it's really like to work in the Pre Sales team at makepositive, and the most rewarding aspects of his role.
Describe your role at makepositive
I am a Pre-sales Consultant. I help the sales team during the pre-sales phase with technical assistance and guidance. During this phase the team works together to better understand the customers business and technical requirements, with the aim to approach any requirements with solutions based in Salesforce.
What does a typical work day look like for you?
Typically day to day I will be building estimates, assessing risks, putting together assumptions and having discovery meetings, all whilst collaborating with the client. This work will go through a review process where it will receive much scrutiny, with the aim to present a deck back to the client and give them an indication of cost, get their feedback, and hopefully win the opportunity.
What is the most challenging part of your role?
A lot of my job is putting together assumptions. Sometimes if the client has given us a lot of information, we can put together some really accurate and detailed assumptions, which will help the project later down the line, as well as helping show the client whether we do or do not understand the requirements. The hard part is when we do not have much information or the client is a bit unsure and needs a fully in depth Define & Design, we have to make really high level assumptions.
What is the most rewarding part of your role?
For me, the most rewarding part is when we win the opportunity. A lot of collaboration goes on between the team, usually with some really hard deadlines, and it is really rewarding when all the hard work comes together to win the sale.
What skills are the most important to perform well in this job?
Communication is very important, along with good listening skills. As the majority of my job is interacting with the client to get the best solution proposed to them, I need to understand their requirements inside and out. Time management is also very very important! As a presales consultant you will be working on multiple opportunities at once, so you will have to be able to manage your time well.
What advice would you give someone looking to apply for a similar role?
If you are looking for a role in pre-sales, I would recommend you already have a good technical understanding on what is being sold. The sales team will depend on you to be able to ask the right questions to understand the client’s technical & business requirements.
What’s your favourite thing about working at makepositive?
The thing I enjoy most about working for makepositive is the culture the company houses. Everybody is very hard working & passionate about their jobs, and the hard work is always recognised! Each day colleagues are pushing me to better myself, to increase my knowledge and professionalism within the Salesforce ecosystem.
