Mobile app helps tackle incidents of discrimination on matchdays.

A while ago makepositive had the pleasure of building a mobile app for a UK based, not for profit organisation called Kick It Out. Their app provides an easy and safe way for football fans to report incidents of discrimination. With all eyes on the world cup we thought to catch up with the director of Kick IT Out – Roisin Wood, to see how things are going…

“The Kick It Out app, launched in July 2013, has provided supporters up-and-down the country with a revolutionary alternative to reporting incidents of discrimination on a matchday. We have been greatly encouraged by the feedback we have received so far from Premier League and Football League clubs, and their fans, and the statistics instantly back up the positive contribution the app has made.

“During the 2013/14 season, 40% of complaints submitted to Kick It Out relating to Premier League fixtures were filed via the app. It has supplied supporters with a quick, easy and discreet way of reporting discriminatory behaviour they may see, hear or be on the receiving end of, and increased their confidence in the complaint being dealt with immediately.

“Throughout the production stage, Premier League and Football League clubs provided vital assistance and guidance on the most effective way of dealing with complaints. This played a key role in shaping the app and its reporting facility before its official release, and has strengthened our relationship with clubs whilst giving us a greater insight into their handling of incidents of discrimination.”

This really is great to hear – at makepositive we are passionate about making a positive difference to our customer’s business and building solutions that are intuitive, easy to use and fulfil a purpose. When we have the opportunity to give something back to the community as well, it all makes it a little bit more worthwhile!
